REGISTRATION ACCESS IS AVAILABLE AFTER COMPLETING ORIENTATION
Course Types
There are two types of classes available during Onboarding, self-paced online eLearning courses and Virtual Classroom sessions. Registration occurs in the Duke Learning Management System (LMS).
- eLearning Modules are self-paced online learnings. You register for them in the LMS and can access them when it suits your schedule. You can even step away and pick up where you left off when you come back to complete them.
- Virtual Classroom courses are instructor-led sessions. You register for them in the LMS by selecting from our scheduled offerings. These are conducted in Zoom.
Required vs. Suggested
Classes are either required or suggested based on your Learning Track. Review your Learning Track Homepage for more information on these courses and Phase 1 requirements.
Participants join RAA with various backgrounds. We do not mandate all courses because some people may be entering roles in research administration after years of working in these systems at Duke. This way new employees have an opportunity to learn systems skills and veterans don't have to sit through content they already know. .
BASIC SYSTEMS SKILLS ARE EXPECTED IN MANY PHASE 2 LEVEL COURSES.
Whether you learn by taking these classes or already have the experience, it is up to you to make sure that you know the basic content in these classes.
Monitor your class completions
RAA participants are responsible for monitoring their own program progress. Learning Track specific checklists and monitoring tools are available in Canvas to help identify which classes are required for your Learning Track.
Additionally Canvas, LMS, and Training Tracker are set up so that you can track your progress throughout RAA, including during Phase 1. We recommend using the Training Tracker to monitor that your courses show up there after completing online modules hosted in the LMS.
ACCESS TO PHASE 2 COURSES IS LOCKED UNTIL YOU COMPLETE PHASE 1
Phase 2 LMS course registration is blocked until you complete Phase 1 and alert OERAF that you have completed your requirements.
Submit the RAA Phase 2 Access Form to request your registration to be unlocked.
Program Phase 2
SIGN-UP FOR SCHEDULED OFFERINGS IN THE LMS

COURSEWORK REQUIREMENTS IN PHASE 2
Assignments (AKA Homework)
Some courses will include homework assignments due before or after class. The assignment will be displayed in the appropriate Canvas Module for that course or it will be accessible in the navigation panel. Homework assigned before class is distributed 5 business days in advance of the class to give you time to complete it. Homework assigned after the course is due 10 business days after the session. Typical homework assignments may include watching a video or completing a worksheet.
Quizzes
These are the most important benchmarks for completing RAA outside of passing the final exam. Each open-book quiz includes 15 questions pulled from the session's materials. You will have 10 business days after the session and 2 attempts to achieve a mastery score of 80% or more. You can submit a quiz late for an additional 3 business days, however, there is a penalty of 1 point for late submissions.
You will need to repeat the course if you don't complete the quiz before the due date or don't pass. Be sure to rely on the materials provided in class to help you answer the questions and use your 2 attempts wisely.
Eligibility for the final exam is based on whether or not you have passed each quiz required by your Learning Track.
Note: Every Phase 2 Virtual Classroom course includes a quiz across all Learning Tracks!
MONITOR YOUR QUIZ GRADES & Course Completions
Phase 2 progress is trackable based on the type of class you complete.
- eLearning classes: Confirm that you are marked "successful" in the LMS or that the class is listed in your Training Tracker transcript
- Virtual Classroom: Confirm that you completed the require quiz and passed with an 80% or more
